Hands-On Ophthalmology Training

Across an immersive day of practice and no lectures, every attendee rotates through specialised training areas, one station per person, guided by mentors, shaping the ultimate ophthalmology training experience for young ophthalmologists.

Event Concept

Participants rotate through a sequence of lab training zones and sectors, focused on a different subspecialty or surgical skill. The rotation ensures constant exposure to new methodologies and practical challenges, instead of focusing on a single procedure. Each participant will get a separate station in each of the training zones, so there will not be any time spent observing, rather a full day of practice.

Bootcamp
Labs

What Training Labs to expect during the full-day training event.

Cataract
Lab

The Cataract Training lab will feature a Wet-Lab experience with real phacoemulsification machines on high-fidelity eye models. It will include the most important cataract surgery steps. Key focus will be given to capsulorhexis and lens fragmentation using various surgical techniques.

Glaucoma
Lab

Glaucoma Lab will feature Workstations that will aim to simulate Anterior Chamber Angle procedures - Microinvasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). You will practice your intraoperative gonioscopy skills, learn about anterior chamber anatomy and dynamics and the specific hand position during surgery from temporal.

Cornea & Refractive Lab

Corneal suturing is one essential skill that every young ophthalmologist should know and master. We will give you the opportunity to practice your 10-0 Nylon Sutures under magnification on silicone models. We will focus on getting the suture tension, burying the nots, as well as the difference between suturing corneal trauma and suturing during perforating keratoplasty.

Trauma & Suturing
Lab

Practical lab, where you learn how to suture a wound around the eye and in the eye. Learn about the specifics when choosing the suture types - when to go for resorbable and non-resorbable, and what is the ideal suture thickness. The goal is to optimise your technique, decision-making, and knowledge for better patient outcomes.

Oculoplastics
Lab

This hands-on lab is designed to develop your oculoplastic surgical skills through practical training and expert guidance. We will focus on marking and incision planning for Blepharoplasty. We will guide you as you practice confidence in both aesthetic and reconstructive suturing of the fine eyelid and periorbital structures.

Surgical
Challenge

Show us your surgical skills as the top 3 winners of the challenge will earn a special prize. Participation in the challenge is optional.

6 Hours
of Practice

The Bootcamp is a course that encompasses different ophthalmology subspecialities and allows you to train key skills for different types of ocular surgery.

3 Hours
of Networking

The Bootcamp is will focus on intensive ophthalmology training, but just as important, will give you the chance to connect and exchange knowledge with motivated peers and mentors.

No

Open Call for Mentors

Join the Ophthalmology24 mentor team and shape the surgeons of tomorrow.

At the Ophthalmology24 Bootcamp, training isn't about passive learning. We are focusing on doing, refining and mastering surgical skills side by side with those who have already walked the path.

That’s where you can come in.

Mentorship is the single most powerful force in surgical education and as a Bootcamp mentor, you can:

  • Accelerate learning curves

  • Prevent future surgical errors

  • Build confidence in young surgeons

  • Transfer the unwritten skills no textbook can teach

Every hour you spend at a workstation directly impacts how a trainee will perform in the operating room months later.

About Us

Mission

High-quality surgical training in Europe is often limited, difficult to access, or too expensive, leaving many young surgeons without the practice they need early on.

The Ophthalmology24 Bootcamp was created to close the gap by putting accessible hands-on training at the center of ophthalmic education, where it belongs.

Vision

Our vision as a company is to redefine how ophthalmologists are trained by making practical, skill-based learning the new standard. We believe everyone deserves access to a controlled environment that allows them to grow and put them on the path to excel as young eye surgeons, especially at the beginning of their surgical journey.

Team

The Bootcamp is organized by Ophthalmology24, led by Atanas Bogoev MD, an ophthalmology consultant and educator, and Maria Bogoeva, a medical marketer and project manager. The team is small but powerful and shares a common goal: to transform surgical training with an innovative approach and brand-new simulation models.

Our vision is simple but powerful, to create a space where skills are learned through touch, teamwork, and mentorship, not just slides and lectures.
